Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude to the DUO team for providing writers with an opportunity to write through their guest author program. As a guest author myself, I am aware of how much value this platform offers to writers.

For those who may not know, DUO is a token of the Hive Onboarding Committee (HOC) and they run a daily publication with articles from guest authors. Guest authors currently receive 50% of the HIVE rewards their articles collect, along with 5 DUO tokens which get staked to their account.

A few days back, I was informed about an issue that the team is facing. The scheme of 5 staked DUO tokens per post is not viable which I believe is due to the fact that most guest posts don't receive enough HIVE upvotes to offset the cost of buying DUO for author rewards. As someone who has worked with publishing companies in the past, I'd like to suggest something that might l work.

Suppose we transitioned to a contract-based model for regular guest authors. Here's how it might be structured:
Rather than transferring DUO tokens per entry, writers would sign up for contracts with the following terms:

  • A specified contract duration (monthly, bimonthly, 6 months, or even a year)

  • A fixed number of posts to submit within this time

  • A set amount of DUO rewards paid upon contract expiration

  • The 50/50 HIVE rewards split on upvotes would remain the same, since the system favors everyone.

The approach would have some advantages:

  • Authors would have higher expectations and work.

  • The project could manage its DUO token supply more effectively.

  • The degree of commitment should be greater since authors would want to fulfill their contracts.

  • The quality of content can be enhanced since it would be more professional with respect to structure.

  • Authors who are successful in their contracts may be offered the option to renew, hence getting a regular team of reliable writers.

This could possibly create a more wholesome and professional writing community within the DUO network.

I believe that this proposal could strike a balance in addressing the issues with sustainability while maintaining the collaborative approach that sets DUO apart. It is merely a suggestion on the part of a community member to look forward to this project continuing in its way.

What is your opinion on this idea? I’m sure the DUO team will have much to share and I’m confident that others in the community will want to communicate their thoughts too.

Working together and collaboration will make this project effective and beneficial to everyone involved.

Thanks for reading.

What if the guest author posts has its very own account?
No auto votes from other duo accounts. All votes would be dynamic, even from the ones getting a curation trail.
This would or should increase quality if the posts, as a post with more quality usually get more votes.
Auto votes will be given from people who in general like the content.
The amount of DUO paid to the guest author should be calculated upon each post. Maybe 50% of the rewards from votes.

All this would lead to better quality.

Fantastic idea. Finance expert level 800 at that age 😎

This is a wonderful idea and something the team has been working on to get this type of curation a little more dynamic we are very happy to see your connection with the guest authors and especially for your video thank you very much for being part of the team.

On the proposal, I would vote (strongly) against it:

  • I feel the guest author rewards are currently too high. It would be benefitial for the community when the 50% of the post rewards that the DUO holders get - exceeds the price of 5 DUO (dilution of dividend pool) => I proposed an alternative reward system.

  • While I do like the guest posts we currently get - we only have 2 frequent authors, personally I would love to see more writing styles and stories as this would mean we grow. If there are more candidates for guest posts this means that the number of guest posts an individual guest author gets published declines.

I feel that your proposal would benefit (and protect) the guest authors, but would cost the community.

@thelastdash

To be fair, ot depends on the amount of posts and duo.
I'm not sure what structure would be best in the long term. I liked your idea a lot when I first read it, but I also see some benefits in the "contract version". Failure to deliver would mean no pay to the author (I think).

That's the point for the contract.

The scheme of 5 staked DUO tokens per post is not viable which I believe is due to the fact that most guest posts don't receive enough HIVE upvotes to offset the cost of buying DUO for author rewards.

I guess you didn't see that, I already mentioned it that rewards most guest posts get is never enough to offset the cost of buying that 5 DUO to reward the author, which makes it unsustainable. This means there should be a review downward on the rewards. However, it shouldn't be based on per post as it currently is.

To have permanent guest authors doesn't mean that they are only going to be a few. It's just still the same as it is right now, but with a purposeful agreement for commitment. The amount of DUO rewards to be paid to authors strictly depends on what the DUO team came up with.

It will benefit and protects both parties. Moreover, the terms of the contract are solely on the hands of the community not the author.

I feel that adjusting it downward, is needed but will not solve that completely if it keeps having a fixed component - I feel that the rewards should be more performance related (and thus more flexible). With this proposal I fail to see the community benefit.

I would love to see a proposal that aims to increase the community value. For example if we could increase the curation rewards guest posts receive, both the author aswell as the holders would benefit.

I think this depends on the community where the post is publish in and those who did the upvotes.

Thats why we need more quality and engagement ! We going to get it!

Having a more independent and dynamic curation system as presented by our guest author would be a more sustainable way to afford the reward of such as the value of the duo would still be below the rewards received all this if the reward of each publication are higher.
You have a very clear point and like you we would also like to see a guest author per day that is a minimum of seven constant writers per week hopefully this has an effective solution and beneficial to all.

Looks like, the proposal is bit complicated and won't attract more guest authors! Just saying :)

!ALIVE

I don't think it's complicated, perhaps the term 'contract' looks like something gigantic to comprehend. It could be just a simple agreement that you are writing for 3 months and would receive certain amount of DUO at the end of the period. Both parties are protected in this way.

The contract system is not complicated, on the contrary, it is attractive to some users as they will have a way to receive more solid and obviously higher rewards over a period of time and thus a more stable commitment to the guest authors.

Okay. If experts think that it's a good, it's definitely a go :)

@bitcoinman another small piece of feedback:

Cheers!

Thats right, something on tittle having a bug.

Yeah in order to get that inleo curation we have to use inleo and that kind of thing can sometimes happen

It is very nice and motivating to see your interest about the duo team and the sustainable token, these ideas about a contract is very good and it is something to pay attention to as we already know how the flow of guest authors has been.
