Maintenance to prevent accidents and riding my bike - Mantenimiento para prevenir accidentes y salida en mi Bicicleta [ENG-ESP]

Hello friends, how are you? I hope you're all doing well. It's been a while since I shared anything about my bike. I've been working on other projects, but I haven't stopped pedaling like I always do. I'd like to tell you that since January, I started riding daily, and the change has been incredible. I've especially improved my performance, and besides that, I've managed to lose almost 5 kilos. It was impressive. Today I worked on some details on my bike and then went on a ride. While I was fixing it, I found some things I want to share with you.

Hola amigos, que tal? espero que se encuentren muy bien, tenía tiempo sin compartir algo con ustedes acerca de mi bicicleta, solo que estaba en otros proyectos sin embargo no dejé de pedalear como siempre lo hago. Les comento que desde el mes de enero comencé a hacer rutas diarias y el cambio ha sido increíble, especialmente mejoré mi rendimiento, y a parte de eso logre bajar casi 5 kilos de peso, fue algo impresionante. Hoy me dediqué a arreglar detalles en mi bicicleta y luego hice una ruta, mientras la arreglaba encontré algunas cosas que quiero compartir con ustedes.

While checking my bike, I noticed the chain was covered in sediment. The dirt on the road clings to the links thanks to the lubricating oil. The sprocket was in the same condition. The last few days I'd been riding my bike, I'd felt how stiff it was, and it was because of all the dirt around here that I proceeded to wash it to make it look like new.

Revisando mi bicicleta estaba viendo que la cadena estaba llena de sedimentos, de la tierra que hay en la carretera se adhiere a los eslabones por el aceite lubricante. Así también el piñón estaba en las mismas condiciones. Los últimos días que salía en bicicleta sentía lo dura que estaba y era por todo el sucio aquí que procedí a lavarla para dejarla como nueva.

So, to clean it thoroughly, I used liquid degreasing soap, which is very useful because it works quickly after just a few minutes of soaking the chain. After that, I took a toothbrush and used it to clean the chain links one by one. I did the same with the sprocket, which, considering its age, is in very good condition.

Así que para lavarla muy bien utilicé jabón líquido desengrasante, muy útil ya que con solo dejar la cadena remojando por unos cuantos minutos su acción es rápida. Luego de eso lo que hice fue tomar un cepillo de dientes y con él fui limpiando uno a uno los eslabones de la cadena. De la misma forma lo hice también con el piñón, el cual para los años que tiene se encuentre en muy buen estado.

Here I encountered a dangerous problem: one of the bike's spokes broke, and the worst part was that it was on the sprocket side. It was a miracle it didn't come off, because otherwise it would have gotten tangled in the chain and I could have had a terrible accident. Fortunately, I found a spare and set about changing it. The problem was that I didn't have a special wrench to remove the sprocket, since the spoke was stuck there. So I had to improvise with other tools, and I was able to get it out.

Aquí encontre un peligroso problema, uno de los radios de la bicicleta se partió, y lo peor del caso es que fue del lado del piñon, por lo que fue un milagro que no se haya salido porque sino se hubiera enredado en la cadena y pude haber sufrido un accidente terrible. Afortunadamente conseguí un repuesto y me dispuse a cambiarlo, el problema es que no tengo una llave especial para sacar el piñon, ya que el radio iba por ahí, así que tuve que improvisar con otras herramientas y pude sacarlo.

I saved a good amount of money doing the work myself compared to taking it to the shop. I put the spare tire back in place and aligned and balanced the wheel myself. It wasn't easy; it took me a few hours. I had no idea how to do it, but when I saw the rest of the wheel, I figured out how to do it. I used the brakes as a guide to see where the wheel looked crooked, and depending on where it was, I could see where I needed to tighten or loosen it.

Me ahorré un buen dinero haciendo el trabajo por mi mismo que llevándola al taller, coloqué el repuesto donde iba y yo mismo pude alinear y balancear la rueda, no fue fácil, me llevó unas cuantas horas, no tenía idea de como hacerlo pero me di cuenta al ver el resto de la rueda como debía hacerlo. Utilicé los frenos como guía para saber en que parte la rueda se veía torcida y dependiendo del lugar ahi se veía hacia donde debía apretar o aflojar.

After fixing the wheel, I performed a complete maintenance on the bearings, replacing the old grease with fresh ones. I also lubricated the chain with some purchased oil. Now, goodbye to those annoying noises and hello to smooth pedaling and faster speeds.

Después de arreglar la rueda hice el mantenimeinto completo a los rodamiendos, cambiando la grasa que ya estaba vieja por grasa nueva. También lubriqué la cadena con un aceite que compré, ahora si adios a los ruidos molestos y bienvenida a la suavidad al pedalear e ir a más velocidad.

I had to go out for a test ride on the bike, and it performed better than I expected. My route was west of the city, on the outskirts. I wanted to see and observe the mountains, which were turning green again due to the rains. There wasn't much traffic, so the ride was peaceful. I took advantage of the opportunity to try out all the speeds, and the results were just as I expected.

Tuve que salir a dar una vuelta para probar la bicicleta, y el desempeño fue mejor de lo que esperaba, mi ruta fue hacia al oeste de la ciudad, en las afueras, quería ver y observar las montañas que estan de nuevo reverdeciendo por las lluvias. No había mucho tráfico por lo que el paseo fue tranquilo, y aproveche de probar todas las velocidades y el resultado fue como esperaba.

On my way back, I spent some time at the city's newly opened extreme park. It was undoubtedly a great project. It's a very complete park with several areas, the main one being the pool for skateboards, roller skates, and bicycles. It also has an area for yoga and meditation and another area with exercise machines, including those for people with physical disabilities. I'm glad this park exists in the city, as there are many extreme biking and skateboarding enthusiasts.

De regreso fui a pasar un rato al recien inaugurado parque extremo de la ciudad, sin duda fue una gran obra la que se ha realizado, es un parque muy completo que cuenta con varias áreas, siendo la principal la piscina para patinetas, patines y bicicletas. También cuenta con un área para practicar yoga y meditación y otra área con máquinas para hacer ejercicios, incluidas las personas con alguna discapacidad física. Estoy contento de que exista este parque en la ciudad ya que hay muchos practicantes de bicicleta extrema y skate.

This was my bike maintenance session. I left it in perfect condition, as I'm planning a long ride to visit a nearby town with a friend. The park, as I said before, is great. I hope to go in the afternoons when the kids go to practice, so I can show them even better things. I hope you enjoyed it. I hope to return soon to share my adventures on wheels with you. Asi fue este espacio de mantenimiento a mi bicicleta, la dejé en perfecto estado, ya que me encuentro planeando hacer una ruta larga para visitar un pueblo cercano en compañía de un amigo. El parque como dije antes está genial, espero podr ir en las tardes cuando van los jovenes a practicar, así podría mostrarles mejores cosas.
