Flying to Caracas for the SIMUN 2025

The San Ignacio Model of United Nations is one of the most important academic events of the San Ignacio de Loyola schools in Venezuela. It is actually part of an international event through which young scholars can learn and develop oratory, leadership and team-work skills.

After some simulacrums in Puerto Ordaz, we are ready for the big event in Caracas! We are no longer the Loyola-Gumilla delegation. Now, we are the Ciudad Guayana delegation. We are representing the State of Bolivar.

We are very excited after so much stress to have all the documents drafted (proposals, etc.) after all the paperwork for the trip, and after so many expenses (which our parents have to cover), including our cool sweaters.

Even though I had been on a plane when I was a few months old and then when I was about 5 years old, for me this is my first time flying. It will be the time I will remember.

We were flying from Puerto Ordaz to Caracas (via La Guaira airport) at 6 pm, but the flight had a delay (due to bad weather, we supposed).

We were all very nervous, but also happy.

We knew this is the kind of experience you never forget.

This was my view from the windows!
We arrived in La Guaira at about 10 pm and in Caracas at about 11 after a ride from the airport.

We had not had dinner and there were not many options at that time of the night, but we were able to find a hamburger place and ate delicious hamburgers before going to bed.

We have three exciting days ahead of us playing at being UN ambassadors, meeting other young students like us from around the country and (as HS Seniors) sharing our last year together before we move on to our next stage in life.

However, we will enjoy a day off first visiting a very popular place in Caracas: Galipan! It is a pretty town up in the Avila Mountain. I will tell you more about it tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. See you next time

They are wonderful experiences, not only because of the event, but the whole adventure of getting out of the house, being with your friends and testing the skills you have learned.

Yes, you are right. I think that after 5 years sharing in HS we have got to know one another better in the last months because of this event.
