We can now say that we have successfully participated in a UN model! It was very stressful but we learned a lot and made some good friends.
We hope we can keep those connections and be a real-life model of unity and solidarity.
We started with a mass (as it is traditional in our Catholic schools.
As the father said, this mass was special because the chapel was packed with young people all dressed up and with a great sense of purpose.
I was very happy I could have my family with me (most of my friends didn't).
After mass, I was ready to face the last session of discussions, deliberations and agreements in our table.
It was fun to play the role of Thai prívate companies. It was fun to learn about Thailand and it's social, political and economic issues. It was a challenge to design and sell a treaty or agreements, which I named Magno, to make the federation of industries comply with international labor regulations and keep their competitive edge in the face of regional challenges.
As I mentioned in the precious post, I was not totally happy because even though my plan was adopted, the delegates from other parties agreed to let another delegate do the defense, which would technically get me out of the main awards at the end.
I got a lot of support from my family and that helped me deal with the frustration.
We had a break at about 10:30 and family was there again to provide support. Things went well in the early discussions and I was just hoping the moderators of the table would give me some credit at the end.
We had out lunch break at 1:30 and my parents took me to eat my favorite good: Sushi!
I felt relieved. I could not believe all the pressure was gone (or so I thought). So many months of training and preparation while still dealing with our last year of High School, gone. It felt weird.
By 3 pm we went back to the school for the closing ceremony and awards.
The band was performing and it was great!
Then, we were in the auditorium and the pressure was back. We were so nervous. We wanted to be the Best for our schools, our teachers, our parents, but that did not depend on us now.
They would awards different things: verbal recognition for outstanding delegate performance, honorary mentions (diplomas), outstanding delegate, best delegate (trophy), and best delegations.
My table was among the last ones. Some of my classmates had already received verbal mentions. I was so nervous. Suddenly, the instituction I represented was mentioned. I did not hear my name because all my friends were shouting and cheering like crazy.
It was good to have been mentioned, but I know I deserved more.
Most of us had that bitter-sweet sensation, but we were proud of what we had accomplished. For most of us, this was first and last chance. We graduate in a months and will move on to college life (hopefully).
The experience will remain, though.
Hopefully, the connections we made will last bayond this event.
We know our schools are proud of us all and some younger kids will be inspired to continue participating in other Models and do even better than us.
