A week of physical pain and an uncertain plot twist

It frustrated me.

I can’t remember the last time I felt physically sick for a whole week. For example, if I have a fever or flu, usually it healed within three days max. But last week, I felt like I was in constant pain. From headaches, to flu, and even a mouth ulcer. Gosh, this was probably one of the worst mouth ulcer I’ve ever experience. And it was close to my lips, so it stung every time I ate something. Even if I just ate the broth, it still hurt.

I know that mouth ulcer is sores or inflammation on the lips and inside the mouth. And growing up, all I knew was that it’s described as a vitamin C deficiency. So for the first 2 days, I just tried consuming more vitamin C, like oranges and vitamin C supplements. But it didn’t help at all; I might even say it made me feel worse.

And then I searched “food recommendations for mouth ulcers”. I bet I’ve never googled anything like that before, because mouth ulcers are always associated with vitamin C deficiency, so if I have a mouth ulcer, I’ve just comsumed more vitamin C.

But I just discovered from a health-care website that we should avoid acidic foods when we have mouth ulcers, including citrus fruits like oranges. It says that while they're rich in vitamin C, the natural acidity of these fruits can irritate the soft tissues in the mouth and trigger mouth ulcers. It was like a plot twist that left me so confused, maybe because I’m just stupid🤣

And then I found another article from the same website titled something like “Frequent mouth ulcers are a sign of vitamin C deficiency, is that true?”, it stated that it's true that vitamin deficiencies can cause mouth ulcers. However, the vitamin responsible for these oral lesions isn't vitamin C, but rather vitamin B12.

In fact, vitamin C is useful for maintaining the immune system. Mouth ulcers are caused by a weakened immune system, but according to doctors, the underlying causes are very diverse. I tried to find a similar article in English, and this is what I found where the statement is quite similar.

After reading those articles, I actually cut back on the amount of oranges I consumed lol. Then, for one more day, it was still really painful and bothersome. I couldn't eat comfortably, and my mood was even messed up because of it. So I bought a medicine. It was probably the first time I’d ever bought medicine for mouth ulcers, because previously, I’d only taken vitamin C. It actually got better the next day, so I continued with medicine.

I was a bit frustrated because while my mouth ulcer hadn't completely healed, I was also alternately having headaches and feeling like I had a cold, which somehow made it really hard for me to do anything. But now I’m fine. So I just want to share it here about that vitamin C things haha.

What do you think? Is it better to take more vitamin C when you have mouth ulcers, or should we avoid it because it will make it worse?

So sorry about the mouth ulcer, but I would prefer instead of the uncertainty of taking vitamin c to se le if it works or not, you should visit a medical doctor. @slowjournals

Thankyou so much for your advice, but I got better after consume the medicine I bought hehe

Am glad that you are feeling ok and better now @slowjournals. But if such situations arises, I feel like it's better to consult a health professional than dive into self medication.

I should bought the right medicine earlier but I'm okay now, thankyou for your advice :)

I a sorry you're feeling that way! I hope that you get better soon and take more Vitamin C when you can.
