Sanctuary of Mother Mary of St. Joseph

Special greetings to all my fellow Architecture and Design lovers here at Hive! Today I want to share with you a really special post of an experience I lived a few weeks ago on my fleeting trip to the city of Maracay, Aragua State of Venezuela. It's about the Sanctuary of Mother Mary of St. Joseph, a very holy place located in the center that includes a complex of buildings where the church, the Catholic school and even the shopping center La Capilla stand out, and it means a lot to me because since I was a child I have been connected to this place, my mom worked for years in this school and my first job, even before I turned 18 and before my three years in McDonald's was helping in this church.

As you can see in the first images, the facade and the small and narrow Calle Lopez Aveledo are cozy, but do not offer a view of impact, it does not seem the entrance to a place so important for the Catholic religious in Maracay, in fact I see that the concrete walls are in poor condition at the moment, although inside the church and the school, which is also a Casa Hogar everything is kept very neat. It was pleasant for me to enter again after almost 20 years and to know that I contributed a little to the care of these spaces in my adolescence, but at the same time I was sad not to be able to access the areas that are not for the general public and thus be able to complement this post, and is that the nuns of my times are no longer present in this Sanctuary.

The place is very beautiful inside, with a modern design, nothing like the catholic churches of great colonial history. The walls are white, it has many stained glass windows in green, orange and Vinotinto colors, which added to the skylights in the central area allow natural light to enter the temple. It may not be very big, but it is very busy, so there is plenty of space to sit, sophisticated lamps, a very, very polished granite floor (I polished it many times) 😅 and one of its most important details, a powerful air conditioning that I think is capable of turning any passerby in downtown Maracay into a Catholic. I highlight the air conditioning because it is one of the hottest cities I know, plus it helps to preserve the person who gives her name to this shrine, Mother Mary of St. Joseph.

Mother Maria de San Jose is a Venezuelan nun and Blessed from the State of Aragua and her body has been kept in perfect condition since she died in the sixties. When I was a child her body was in the Catholic school next to this temple, in what was her room when she was alive, but now it is in this Sanctuary, in a transparent coffin so that everyone can appreciate it, with lots of air conditioning and of course some touch-ups that are eventually done to maintain it. Although she is blessed, she still has a long way to go to be recognized as a saint by the Catholic Church, my mother has told me that she still needs to perform and prove some miracles to be considered, but I am very impressed to see such a well cared for body in spite of the passing of the decades.

The altar is very beautiful, but also very simple. On the same granite floor rests the counter supported by two pillars, possibly marble but I am not sure, plus a pillar a little higher for the liturgical readings, but really does not offer something more, almost all its beauty is due to the painting in the background, which added to that image of Jesus make a three-dimensional scene of the resurrection of Christ, in addition to simulating rays of light with white and pink fabrics and over all of them there are LED lights that make the view more impressive. On the left side rests the body of Mother Mary of St. Joseph and on the right side is the area of the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar, with one of the most interesting and beautiful designs I have seen among so many Catholic churches I have visited, you can see it in the photos below:

I hope to return soon and with more time to the whole complex dedicated to Mother Mary of St. Joseph, and I have been wanting to return to see the museum where her belongings are, if they still have them there. When I lived in this city I was lord and master of these facilities, not only for accompanying my mother in her work or when I worked in the sanctuary myself, but for all the concerts we had in these buildings, I lived many special moments here. I am glad I visited it and I am glad to share a little of my impressions about this holy and so modern place, so I hope it has been to everyone's liking here, and if you visit the city of Maracay in Venezuela, this is one of the places you have to know, for what it offers and for its history, besides being a very refreshing stop in your walks through the center. Thanks to all who read and support, a sincere hug for you!...

It is a beautiful tour that you made through the warm lands of Maracay. It is very nice the colorful altar and all the order and peace that is breathed in the place.

In our country there are beautiful churches and this is one of them. Thank you for this tour. I love the stained glass windows. I am glad you visited this shrine again and somehow relived all the memories you have in it with your mother.

This is one of the most beautiful places in Maracay, not only for its interior design that invites you to stay a long time in that place, but also for the peace that you feel when you are there for a while.

I have been there many times and I love the colorfulness of this place, the light that comes in transforms into some kind of color that makes the place much more cozy. Undoubtedly a place that deserves to be visited many times.

I loved all of your photos, they are not to be missed.

Me encantaron todas tus fotos, no tienen desperdicio.

I agree that it is undeniably more beautiful inside. Such a good place more conducive to giving my praises for Him. Glad to have a glimpse of the particular structure that has a memorable part of you in your yester-years. Good morning and have a nice day ahead!

Thank you very much for sharing a very beautiful message that contains beautiful stories from your childhood, along with some great photos of this particular Maracaibo area, along with some of the architectural designs and oldest designs.

White colour is enhancing the beauty of church. I appreciate the maintenance of it . The setting of sitting areas attracts my attention.

What a beautiful tribute to both the place and your journey. It’s amazing how architecture becomes a part of our life stories.

I have never entered this sanctuary, but now that I read you, it attracts my attention, mainly because of Mother Mary, I had heard about it, but to see it in person must be of impact. Happy day brother Jesus!.

Guao querido, una increible calidad fotográfica, me encanta

Ahh. Buenazo

Wow! what a nice temple, definitely the altar is my favorite it has a simple but elegant and sophisticated design, the colors match very well and add style to the place, the curtains are beautiful.

Cheers!
