Tugu Station, Yogyakarta

Hello, architecture and design enthusiasts. Today, I will continue discussing Yogyakarta. After all, this is where it all began. I may have to repeat myself, even though it may be a bit tedious, but after not visiting Yogyakarta for a long time, I realised that many things have changed here, one of which is the Tugu Station in Yogyakarta.

Since I took the night train from Pasar Senen, I arrived at Tugu Yogyakarta in the morning so I could rush off on my adventure. However, what surprised me was that the interior of the station had changed significantly. There was even a new exit that I hadn’t seen before. To be honest, I felt a bit disoriented because so much had changed here.

After exiting the Bogowonto train platform, I immediately headed to the prayer room since it was already dawn. After that, I went to the waiting area. By the way, the waiting area was also very neat, with chairs featuring soft cushions. One of them was located in the inner area near the entrance to the KRL. It was a black chair with armrests arranged in a row.

Additionally, in the area near the comfortable waiting chairs, there were also chairs dominated by brown colours. Seeing this, I actually wanted to sit down and relax for a moment. However, since my schedule was quite packed for the first day, I decided to head straight for the exit.

Before finding the exit point, I noticed a unique luggage storage locker with all its motifs featuring various batik patterns in a variety of colours. There was also a vending machine for drinking water, a franchise store accessible from inside the station, and designated areas for each category.

Here, I felt a bit unfamiliar with Tugu Station. Upon exiting the platform, there was an exit not far away, but it turned out that a new exit corridor had been built, accessible via an escalator.

After the stairs, passengers heading outside still had to pass through a corridor with artworks by specific artists on both sides. When I visited, there was an exhibition of aesthetically pleasing black-and-white photos of Yogyakarta from the past, with captions explaining them. Visitors who want to linger can read the beautiful photos on the walls along the corridor.

Yes, this policy is implemented when the corridor is not crowded with passengers or those heading to their respective destinations, as it could be dangerous.

As for the lighting, there’s no doubt about it. Everything is well-maintained. After passing through the corridor and the escalator once more, I finally found the exit, but before that, I noticed the beautiful Christmas decorations. Remember, this was my trip to Yogyakarta during last year’s Christmas season, so there you go.

After that, I took a photo of the Yogyakarta Station signage before heading to my accommodation. In my opinion, Yogyakarta Station has improved significantly since then, so I will definitely return to this city again in the future.

Hi, I am the child of the universe, I like to read books with various genres. I was born in the city of batik but can't draw batik yet. I want to be a novelist, but my works are only short poems that are included in anthology books.

I love the idea of turning a simple corridor into a mini gallery. It is a creative way to showcase Yogyakarta’s rich history through black and white photographs.🤗

Agreed. So passengers can take a break from their eyes. He he

For sure! Give everyone’s eyes a nice, relaxing break. Hehe!

Everything felt so modern but still had that traditional Yogyakarta charm. The batik lockers really caught my eye too super creative!

There are always many paradoxes. like this life.

Tugu Station has a beautiful design; the corridors are clean and beautifully decorated.

Greetings!

Everything is well maintained and cared for. I really like public facilities that are well maintained. Like paying taxes is not in vain.

A pleasant atmosphere can be appreciated in the wide corridors and in those huge escalators. Everything looks very neat and tidy.
