In many religious communities today, especially some Christian and Islamic groups, eating pork is seen as wrong or even sinful. They often refer to the book of Leviticus, where God told the children of Israel not to eat pork because it was considered “unclean.” But does that mean every human being on earth is not supposed to eat pork? Let’s break it down in simple terms.
In Leviticus 11:2–8, God gave Moses specific dietary instructions for the children of Israel. Among the animals listed as unclean was the pig. God told them not to eat it or even touch its dead body. But it’s important to understand that this command was not given to the whole world, but specifically to the Israelites, God’s chosen people at that time.
Before this law was given, we see something different in the time of Noah. In Genesis 9:3–4, God told Noah, “Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you.” That means Noah and his family could eat any animal, even lions or crocodiles, as long as they didn’t eat the blood with the meat. This was God’s general instruction to mankind after the flood not just to one tribe or nation.
So what changed? The laws given to Israel through Moses were part of a special covenant between God and the Israelites.
Foods, the way we dress, worship, and live on a daily were all included in the law
But they were never given to the whole world.
Today, as followers of Christ, we are no longer under the Old Law of Moses. Christ came to fulfill the law and brought a new covenant, one based not on what we eat, but on how we live in love, truth, and faith. The focus now is spiritual cleanliness, not just physical diet.
Many people in countries like China, the U.S., and Nigeria eat pork regularly and live healthy lives. If eating pork were a global sin, would God allow so many people to eat it without any direct punishment?
In summary,as can be seen from what we were taught from the Bible and the spiritual insight of Bro Eli ,. eating pork is not a sin for everyone.
It was a specific instruction for a specific group, and today we live under a different covenant. What God truly wants from us is obedience, faith, and love not simply avoiding a particular food.
We're allowed to eat all animals created by God.
