Voodoo Doughnut in Portland Oregon

On our recent trip to Portland, Oregon we visited the world-famous Voodoo Doughnut shop in Old Town. This is the original location where they started in 2003. You can read more about them at The Voodoo Doughnut Story page.

Open Almost 24 Hours

We arrived at 8:30 pm and there was a reasonably long line out the door. We were surprised to learn that they are open from 6:00 am to 3:00 am every day. It's not surprising since they draw these crowds. Thus, the slogan "Open Almost 24 Hours" cleverly shines in neon lights.

The area inside is small, and they allow 3-4 groups in at a time. A security guard waits at the door to let one group inside after each group exits. This was our view waiting at the window.

The doughnuts are displayed on a rotating turntable with three levels and a glass front. It's a unique way to show them and I've never seen doughnuts presented in this fashion.

Naturally, we ordered a lot more doughnuts than we could eat in one sitting. They all looked delicious and we wanted to try a variety of options.

Good things come in pink boxes.

As you can see below, someone was eager to take a bite of one before taking a picture. There is also a maple bar mysteriously missing from this photograph.

Starting from top left is an apple fritter, school daze (peanut butter with jelly filling), buttermilk bar, sprinkle cake, the homer, and the dirt.

The dirt was, by far, the favorite of everyone. School daze was the least favorite, the peanut butter tasted unusual and unlike any peanut butter flavor I've had.

Overall, the doughnuts were good but not the best I've ever had. This is more about the experience because it's such a unique place and they have so many unusual flavors and types of doughnuts. I recommend stopping by if you are in the area.
