STREET ART #235 – Beautiful art just outside our door in El Poblado, Medellín (Colombia)

A visit to Medellin was a real treat when it comes to street art. I chose to stay in the district called El Poblado. That turned out to be a good idea when it comes to street art. The area is loaded with beautiful art.

I eventually discovered that Medellín is truly a vibrant cultural city, something it has not always been. The urban transformation can be seen in both the modern infrastructure, but also in the galleries and, not least, the street art. Right after arriving at my hotel, it was easy to see that I had possibly ended up in the right place. The hotel has a great painting on one end wall and right outside almost every house has a painting. I just had to start exploring.

The mural above was painted on a corner building. These paintings pays tribute to the firefighters.

This beautiful portrait is painted at the back of our hotel (Torre Poblado). It is huge and I am missing the lower part. Impossible to take a good photo because of the position. I am standing in the Calle 10 in order to be able to take the photo. The artist is Jomag Ariza, an active street artist in Comombia.

After spending 5 days in Medellin, I discovered the amazing amout and power of street art in Medellín. Besides El Poblado, I also went to Communa 13. Another area where the power of political and social art is visible. A great excample of the city's capability to transform.
