Video game graphics have come a long way. We are at the end of the first quarter of this century, and the technical improvements in the video game industry have been nothing short of magical, from low-poly 3D assets to realistic models with ultra-realistic lighting and animations. It was amazing to experience.
I played a lot of visual masterpieces this year in multiple genres. One such game was Horizon Zero Dawn. I could play this game because of my new GPU this year, and it was worth every penny I spent on it.
The game can look this good because of its amazing lighting, which can make or break any game. The day-night cycle is amazing, and the dynamic weather conditions make it even more memorable.
Strolling through the forest is fun. When the sunlight falls on the tall crimson grasses, they glow and make it look like a beautiful painting. They were able to create these visually stunning games in their in-house engine, Decima.
One of the best things in the game is its terrain and vegetation for me. I love to roam around in this open-world game. The water fidelity is amazing, too. I remember the times when water looked so bad in games, but it has improved a lot now. I know how hard it is to simulate liquids in the game, especially water that looks realistic. They did an amazing job with it.
I love to take sunrise and sunset shots, and this game encourages me even more. That is the time when you will see the light painting the whole world even more dramatically.

Although I am not running this game at the highest graphics settings, since I play on a 1440p monitor, it still looks great on medium settings.
There is an amazing photo mode which lets me adjust the camera for shots like these.
I am more inclined to take pictures of nature, but sometimes I prefer capturing the strange, primitive huts and buildings in this game. These structures blend into the environment well. They never look out of place in this game, which is harder to achieve in this kind of game.
The world of Horizon Zero Dawn is mostly in ruins. The old world was destroyed, and slowly, nature reclaimed all of the old buildings of that world. Look at how this traffic signal is mostly overtaken by nature now.
Humanity survived that destruction and began rebuilding, forming small groups and tribes. I captured a small child who was busy with herself without a worry in the world.
