Continuing in New York City, but now talking about baseball, it is time to talk about the Mets in the MLB, and the much talked about case in recent weeks. And we talk about their big contract in the winter market, the Dominican outfielder Juan Soto, and his poor performance, that although there is still a lot of regular season to go in this 2025, his performance has shown that no matter how much money is given to a player, he will not be the player for which he was hired, that is, he will not put better numbers, to receive more greenbacks in his pocket.
That is something that apparently many still fail to understand, because there is a false belief among fans, that they have to demand more from a player, just because he has a big contract. If we see Soto's numbers at this moment, they are similar to those that he always places regularly, and similar to those of his teammates, it is not possible to understand why the criticism was made to a player, that when he went to the market to be hired, those were the records he projected, yes, they are somewhat low, but I think we are also forgetting that it may be a bad streak, and he still has time to reverse the situation, well, if there is something to revert.
No lo es todo | It is not everything
If we look at the collective performance of the New York Mets, it is very linear, that is to say, it is very team-oriented, where each of its members does his job, and no player does more than what he has to do on the field, they do not exceed their role, and that is the style of their manager, the Venezuelan Carlos Mendoza, and for example, the result in the last games, where they just won a series against the best team in the MLB, the Los Angeles Dodgers, (2-1) all very close games, and the last 2 against the Chicago White Sox, the same thing has also happened, leaving a balance of 4-1 in the last 5 games played.
When we go to a more global analysis of the team from the Big Apple, we can observe that they are second in their division, just 2 games behind the great Philadelphia Phillies, a well-formed red team, and that two seasons ago, they reached the World Series, There is nothing to reproach the New York team at a group level, because they remain firmly in the standings, with a view to maintaining that way of playing the games, leaving aside the opinion of those who do not play, this sounds harsh, but it is necessary to do so, because those bad comments, have a great impact on the core of a team.
Weeks ago and after a series they just played against their city neighbors, the Yankees, manager Mendoza was asked in a press conference about Soto's bad moment with the Mets, he responded that it was very normal, and that the player could handle that and more, referring specifically to the pressure from the Yankees public, calling him a traitor, because last season Soto was a Yankees' player, and certain comments from some media of the metropolitan environment, that he was a traitor, because last season Soto was a Yankees' player, He specifically referred to the pressure from the Yankees' public, calling him a traitor because Soto was a Yankees' player last season, and certain comments from some of the metropolitan media, which showed much concern and doubt as to whether it had been a good decision to have paid so much for an average player.
For us to have an idea, and being realistic and at the same time relying on statistics, Juan Soto, is not a player of 300 points average, he is not a bat that can give you 40 home runs every season, and barely reaches 100 runs batted in per season, his virtue is in taking good turns, to get pitches to the opposing pitcher, that is something that very few players have these days, when all they do is, try to get the ball out of the park every time they stop to bat. So the question would be, why is so much money being offered to this player? We believe he was at the right time, for a good free agency contract, where he took advantage of the one who offered the most.

Saludos.
