Last week, I had the opportunity to dive into the world of industrial innovation with a unique film assignment inside a plastic manufacturing company. This wasn’t just any shoot—it was an intense, hands-on experience, capturing technology in action, up close and personal.
From the moment I stepped onto the factory floor, I knew this would be a different kind of project. The air hummed with energy, and the rhythm of machines set the pace for the day. My goal was to capture the heart of the production process—not from a distance, but right in the middle of it.
Close to the Action
Using a range of lenses and a stabilizing rig, I got as close as safety would allow. The shots reveal intricate mechanical movements—raw plastic materials being heated, shaped, and refined with surgical precision. The power and choreography of these machines were mesmerizing.
Sparks and Precision: Laser Technology
One highlight was filming the laser cutting and engraving systems. Through the lens, I watched beams of light slice through plastic sheets like butter, creating flawless edges and complex patterns. The interplay of light, heat, and motion offered some of the most visually striking content of the day.
The Future is Now: 3D Printing in Action
Another fascinating aspect was documenting the company’s 3D printing division. Layer by layer, I filmed components taking shape—each line of filament a step closer to the final product. These machines are quiet revolutionaries, building custom parts with minimal waste and maximum precision.
Final Thoughts
This shoot reminded me how much storytelling potential there is in industrial environments. There's beauty in functionality and poetry in precision. Through my lens, I aimed to reveal not just what these machines do, but how they represent the cutting edge of manufacturing.
Stay tuned—I'll be sharing a short cinematic edit soon that brings all of this to life.

Some of my favourite films have such locations. Where there's something deeply disconnected from humanity within them. Almost an otherworldly feeling to what the location holds or what is being made within them. And that can also be in the innovation and positive side of human development, not just the gritty and pollutant side of things.
