...as we took our visitors, my in-laws, for a visit to a harbor.
The idea was to show them the boats and the restaurants, but something unexpected pitched up.
The ladies wanted Ice-cream, and I took my father-in-law for a short walk on a gang way closer to the yachts. While admiring the boats something suddenly emerged from the depths right next to us. Oh, let me tell you that I had my camera out in a flash, and while my father in law stared in awe, I took a step even closer to get a few shots. The surprise lingered enough time for me to also make a short video, and then it disappeared under the water.
I cannot tell you how glad I was that my father in law could see this, and I can tell you that he was flummoxed.
So here it was! Right close to me and the seal floated upside down.
I thought that it was about to go, but no, as it ignored me totally and just continued to do its thing.
Maybe it even gave me a closed eye smile in the photo.
And here is the video that I made of it.
You can see the harbor here below on the horizon.
Let me tell you that my parents in law cannot stop talking about their 7 day visit here, as even now the dad is still telling the family of what they had seen during their visit here. He also continues to send us messages to tell us how much they enjoyed and thank us for opening up a whole new world for them. Of course, we are happy that the weather stayed good during their visit, and also for the idea to take them around every day.
We have now entered the new month of June, and we want to wish every Hivean to have a great one.
In the meantime, another strange thing happened, as yesterday an Elephant seal emerged from the sea to take a walk up the road in Gordon's bay. Imagine that, as an elephant seal is a very big guy, and I saw that it even rested its head on a car.
Do yourself a favor, and Google, Elephant Seal in Gordon's Bay, as I bet that you will see something totally unbelievable.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

ha that reminds of a story that made the news last week :
Yeah, we live close to Gordon's Bay, and the Elephant Seal was sedated and then hoisted with a Rhino lifter onto a truck. They took the youngster away to a big harbor, and a ship took it far away to release it into the sea.
Now here's the catch. The next morning the seal was back, and it crawled onto a dry piece of land in Simon's town. They discovered that the seal was molting, and so they sealed the area off to prevent the public from harassing it.
