Social Media is Dead, Long Live Social Media

Despite my lack of attention here, I believe Hive really is (or at least should be) the future of social media.

I loathe the algorithmic content machinations that are the big platforms, and I simply refuse to use them at this point. Even Reddit is on my shitlist, and I go through periods of not wanting to have anything to do with it.

Content needs to go back to being genuine, even if it means you won't become internet famous. When was the last time you recognized you were enjoying something without feeling the need to make content out of it? We've all become so obsessed with taking pictures and videos of everything we do, that we've forgotten how to form a genuine connection, both with our experiences and the people we care about.

Honestly, I'm never good at keeping up with people in any form, but content platforms that have a "game" are just that much less enticing.

I've been playing with the idea of different blog posts, and I've been unsure about where to post them, but coming back here is feeling like the best place. I don't want to start a Wordpress blog for my whims, and I don't want to make some simple self-hosted site because I don't want the impermanence. At least a blockchain is something that can't be censored (okay, well, you know what I mean) and I don't need to worry about maintaining my historical posts.

Ever since reading "Speaker for the Dead" I've been obsessed with the idea of being my own speaker, but I've been almost entirely unsure about how to go about that. Again, actually working at making posts on Hive regularly feels like the right way to do so. I think Ender would appreciate the idea of using this tool for such a purpose.

Yes, I also hate AI art, but I needed something, and other people don't seem to mind it, so there's my cover art!

Anyway, that's my two cents for this twelve-month cycle. Hopefully I can actually get myself to do the things I want to, regardless of whether anyone else sees them or not. As I said, I intent to use posts on Hive as a way to document who I am, as authentically as possible and without duplicity.
