Lovesniped

A couple months ago I made a post going over our Onboarding numbers and today again thanks to @hivetrending, we came up and implemented a cool idea that may help with our retention numbers.

The thing with the onboarding program is that onboarders spend time and energy to guide these users into their Hive journey launch and we can rest assured that these are real users that have been invited p2p to join Hive. This is why the onboarding project gives onboarders additional tools and a gateway to support these users early on through nominating their posts for curation through us. However, to prevent too much favoritism between onboarded users through our gateway compared to say regular users finding out about Hive themselves or being invited by people not in our program we also have the @lovesniper initiative that seeks out first posts of new accounts to curate and follow if they seem genuine. This means that users in our onboarding program have a limited time for direct nomination of curation so they don't always have an edge over regular new users and creating a scenario where some users wish they had been onboarded rather than having joined Hive on their own.

Since a lot of directly onboarded users "graduate" from our program after a few months, there's been instances where some have been completely ignored by other stakeholders/curation projects and due to the welcoming nature of our votes have felt disappointed/neglected by the instant lack of voting support which may have caused some to go inactive.

That is partially what this new initiative aims to help out.

The @lovesniped account is simple. It recently followed all the ~2k onboarded accounts since January 2022 (with a current retention rate of 300 still active ~15%) and will continue to follow newly onboarded users as announced in the @ocdb onboarder compilation posts that attempt to reward the onboarders for their time and effort.

The @lovesniper account works similarly, it follows genuine-seeming new users and curates them here and there but the graduation process there is once a new account reaches 60 rep they're unfollowed (we may raise this slightly).

The idea is that now everyone can easily and simply follow along onboarded users and interact and curate them through the @lovesniped feed similar like the @lovesniper feed.

Using peakd for instance, you can go to https://peakd.com/@lovesniped/feed, you can use the filter to remove reblogs and now you get an instant feed of all onboarded accounts still actively posting. You can on your own now help retention rates of vetted and directly onboarded users from our select few onboarders with your stake and activity.

Another great thing about @lovesniped, is that if some of these users make a comeback, we're more likely to notice this and welcome them back with encouraging comments and curation.

As you can see from the screenshot I just took of the feed, there's plenty of content to be consumed and engaged with and curated.

We're excited to see how this may impact our retention rates and overall activity of our onboarded users and future ones and look forward to continuously evolving the project and trying to scale it.

Let us know what you think of this new initiative in the comments, will you be checking out the lovesnier and lovesniped feeds?

Thanks for reading!

Excellent initiative!

Hive can definitely use all the encouraging newbie welcome programs we can come up with — speaking from experience, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have stuck around for the long haul with out various forms of encouragement.

Although it's not exactly addressing your post — but I know you do have a witness interest, and perhaps are closer to source code tweaks — has anybody ever floated the idea of putting a star/sun icon next to new accounts, perhaps for the first 30 days? It could help with newbie and content discovery by making it stand out. It would also help curation services easily spot newcomers... I know I was greatly encouraged when one of my early posts got "Curie'd."

As always a great job. It is really appreciated that you strive to improve every day and support new users that day by day do a great job in Hive.
Lately I have incorporated about 6 users in a period of a month and they have been quite committed and happy with the support received for their effort and good work. Keep up the good work. @acidyo I would like to know if you are already eligible for the onboarding program, it would be wonderful as I am actively working in Isla Marfarita Venezuela to establish a strong Hivers community and so far we have been doing a great job.
Regards

Yes! the onboarding channel om our discors is always open but we're generally looking for active and experienced hivers that spend a fair amount of time on chain. If you've already shown initiative to onboard people on your own you should have an easy time getting selected, just please apply so it's the same process for everyone!

Good thing. We need more welcoming aspects like these! And I think there is more explaining content needed. Maybe something like a place for ressources where new Hivians can dive in. (Yes, I know, we have a lot of explaining contents, but would be great when we have a place where these ressources are kind of collocted - or at least we guide new users with info material that they see enought reasons to dig deeper.) I do care/chat a lot for new or unexperienced Hivians via Discord and most of the time I discover that basic knowledge about function or how to behave is not existing. So with some support in form of a vote and education we can move a lot - before the users leave because of the feel "I don't receive traction here".

I really welcome lovesniped!

Great idea. I guess several onboarded users of hive dropped because they didn't get engagement on their posts. I have seen genuine and well-written introduction posts of 4 days old getting no comments and almost nothing in curation. Most onboardees won't feel motivated to continue if they experience such. So I'm certain @lovesniping will come in handy to solve this problem. Thanks for coming up with the initiative.

Sure, my friend, count me in. I'll be there as much as possible. My vote isn't very strong, but I'll give my testimony and encouragement to those kids. We have to make sure they stay at Hive.

I will check the lovesniped/lovesniper accounts to find some genuine user to promote him/her for the Hive Pizza contest delegation round, 500HP should be a good delegation boost for anyone

I will be checking out lovesniped fees and may throw some votes that way, but my vote is pretty small...

This idea is a total game changer! I remember how hyped I felt when I got my first real comment and vote ,it kept me going. Glad to see we're giving that same spark to more new users.

Hi, I hope you're well. @lovesniper followed me, grateful for the support. And whenever I can, I support newcomers. I've received a lot of support, and it's my way of saying thank you. Newcomers need a lot of support.

Very interesting, the truth is that support is necessary to get them hooked on there, count on my grain of sand that I will be there for whatever is needed.

Congratulations @acidyo! You received a personal badge!

I think it's great this initiative to keep active these new users and those who are not so much, or do not stay very active for lack of support, as much as it will bring to do a good job in the network.

Especially when they are very young and feel that they have no place here for their content.

How can I see these users and support them with my humble vote or comment.

Greetings, grateful to @lovesniper for the support. That support, when I receive it, is very welcome. Thank you so much.

wow, that is a good news because newbies struggles at first and needs aid and support and you are there and you had made a wonderful support shoulder. Thanks for the effort

Ohh this is so wonderful. I was part of the OCD onboarding program and I can say for a fact that it helped me until I was able to find my footing here.

I’ll definitely check the lovesniped feeds from time to time and spread as many votes as I can.

Lovely

I'm a curator for a modest curation project, and the project's goal is to curate posts that have fallen through the cracks. Our priority is those who are finding their way on Hive and want to grow. I'm so grateful for your initiative; it's a valuable support for the community.
