The Power Of Small Acts Of Kindness To Change Lives

You will agree with me that the world is already being ladened and burdened with challenges that a little help you render to someone can trigger hope in them. There are times when the most difference is not made by grand gestures or some deep-pocket helps, but some small helps that are often overlooked. More often than not, a small thoughtful help that comes out of a heart of love can actually make a lasting impact. For example, when you meet someone trekking under the hot scorching sun, and you offer him a lift, it can make some very massive impact for him. Helping others in the way you can does not do only them the good, but it transforms your own life in ways you cannot even explain.

You must not have everything in order to help someone. A few days back, I entered a shop to pick a few groceries, and a woman entered the same shop, from the look of things, she had walked under the sun for a while, so she wanted to buy sachet water to drink. The shop owner told her that they only sell bottled water, which was obviously costlier than the sachet water. So she was about to leave maybe because she did not have enough cash on her to get the bottled water, then I called her back. I asked the shop owner to give her the bottled water on my bill. She took it, opened it and drank the the entire bottle with thirst. She then looked at me and smiled and thanked, then she left. From the look of things, she was obviously refreshed by the water. Now consider the fact that the water does not cost much, but it made a lot of difference at that point.

It is worthy to note that a lot of the good things of life are actually with little or no price, yet their effects are priceless. Sometimes, even giving someone a listening ear, a shoulder to lean on, a little push in their career, a help in time of need, and mentorship, etc, can actually change their life and make them better. A lot of people are facing some really tough times that the act of kindness, which may look small on the surface, may be what they will need to be alright. These acts of kindness, which can be seen as helping hands, can go a long way to offer hope to the hopeless, strength to the weak, and comfort to the weary. At the point where life seems to be hard on you, having the right people around can be a blessing.

I remember some years back, I was at a crossroad in my life and I needed very specific help. Right in that state, I met one of my old family friends who I stayed with briefly when I was little. I shared with him the challenges and he gave me some kind words and an idea which, when I implemented, brought about the solution that I was looking for. You may say that he did not give me material help, but the truth is that what he gave was even far above that, and with it, I was able to proffer solution to the pressing challenge at hand. Giving someone a helping hand does not always mean giving them money or material resources, but it can also include anything you do to make them feel better - kind words, empathy, idea, etc.

I have realized that helping someone can also trigger a ripple effect of kindness. One act of kindness that you show to someone can also make others to do the same and show it forward. Now imagine when you have helped someone to stand on their feet, and they do the same for others, the world around you will become better. That little act of kindness that you do today can set off a chain reaction, and may even transcend you. What you think that is too small may be what someone else is hoping to survive on. Anytime you have an opportunity to help someone or lend a helping hand to someone or show kindness, see it as an opportunity to affect the world positively. This is because an act of goodness done to one can affect others indirectly.
