I started on Hive in April 2022 and since then have written a post or sometimes two each week about what's going on in my life, my past and a few other things from time to time; I've not always been available to post more often and I've had no desire to do so but I've mostly enjoyed my time here.
I've been busy this week so unable to post and came here just now to make a post for the weekend and saw the below comment on my last post left for me by someone called @hivewatchers who I've not heard from before. I don't know who he is and considering the comment below I don't really want to.
I came to Hive because I was assured by @galenkp that it was different than other social media and considering my distaste for social media I resisted; he did a good job convincing me eventually and for the last three and a half years I've been posting now and then and quite enjoying a little interaction now and then with a few users who would drop into my posts.
My response to the message above was no, as you can see, and it will be no every single time.
I don't know what the account hivewatchers wants from me, who they are or what power they feel they have over this decentralized platform and to be really honest I don't care. I don't have social media outside of Hive and so cannot acquiesce to their demand. What that means for me here is an unknown and what is known is that my answer to them is a resounding no.
Opening an account on one of the platforms that require "Real people" confirmations, such as Facebook, was opened by one of us even before the first block of bitcoin was generated.
At that time there was no idea about decentralized platforms (that is, maybe there was, but the question is who knew anything about it), then personal data was not protected by laws as it is today, then we more or less shared a large number of our data when logging into those platforms on Web2.
With the arrival of Web3 and the inclusion of money in the story (through crypto), many became more cautious and less active on Web2 platforms and switched to Web3 where there was no need to present themselves with personal data.
In this way, they kept their identity, because is it wise to post your full name and place of residence, when you have tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in your account.
Many also avoid crypto exchanges that require KYC, so it is unlikely that they would easily identify themselves as "Real people" through profiles on Web2 platforms.
The pictures you post, blurred, always show a pretty woman with blonde hair, so even though I didn't see your face in any of them, I could confirm that you are a "Real" woman.
I don't know how hivewatcher chooses the accounts from which they will ask for this kind of confirmation, but I hope they won't ask me what they asked you, because I certainly wouldn't give them a link to my FB account. Probably through the rare pictures I posted on Hive where my face is visible, they easily discovered my FB profile, but I wouldn't confirm it with a link.
I think that any Meetup (or mutual personal acquaintance) is quite enough to confirm Real people, as meesterboom confirmed in your case.
I'm a real person, but it doesn't seem to matter what I think, or what other people know. I'm not about to reveal my social media accounts because I don't have any and privacy on the internet it vital. So, whatever that means for my time on Hive, I'm comfortable with it. Only a fool reveals their identity on the internet.

@hivewatchers I am presuming that someone is trying to attack galenkp by submitting a report against accounts he supports. I am presuming they are going to claim it's an alt of his. I understand you have to follow process but fwiw I just want to say on record that I know this is a real person.

Yes I was and considering those who were reported all have one common link, galenkp, the person who reported you and I and others clearly is someone he has been addressing for their poor behaviours on Hive. I suppose people feel empowered by small acts of defiance like this, even though they amount to nothing in the grand scheme of things. I felt my way of handling it was the best way and I'm not sure if I'll ever do another post here, only time will tell. I will comment more though, I like the interaction.

I find it so ironic that someone hiding behind keyboard anonymity can demand that others expose themselves completely for the entire platform to see. To him/her/them I would say 'you first, Fester!'
I don't post very often, but I do love reading and commenting when time allows, but if they're going to get all authoritarian about it, I'll go my own way as well.
That's a good point about a person who remains completely anonymous asking others to reveal themselves. Strange and unusual.

If only they were content and happy within themselves like you and I are; they'd not have the need to attempt to raise and bolster their sense of personal self-worth by tearing others down. Maybe they got a small feeling of power however for people like that it's usually fleeting and within the silent recess of their own minds their lack festers and grows like a cancer.

This is disheartening, I know, and as @meesterboom says is probably just someone thinking they'll get at me because I support you which is typical and predictable behaviour for many of the people here on Hive who are simply garbage human beings.
You have never powered down, not once in 3.5 years, never extracted any funds and have powered up 100% of the time. You write with passion and realness, use your own photos and post when you can and want to rather than like a "post factory" to generate revenue. That's commendable and speaks highly of you as a person.
I don't think @hivewatchers have any real power here and you're best to ignore it however I know, because you're you, that it's upset you somewhat especially after the three and a half years you've spent here. That person/group called hivewatchers have done some good work in the past but have also done some inexplicable things; they do what they do and nothing seems to divert them from their course...I suggest you do the same whether it's to continue to create your content or to choose not to...I will fully support either as I have done for the last three and a half years. I also support your decision to refuse their request as I knew you would.
Thank you for the comment and other things also since I discovered this situation. I'm a little disappointed but people can do as they please around here so whomever hivewatchers is can do the same. I know others here would not reveal their true identities for privacy reasons and I won't be either. I was upset at first but it's ok, I don't really mind. because I am a real person I will retain my right to privacy and not do what they ask which would be impossible anyway as I have no social media as you well know.

It doesn't make a lot of sense really, asking someone to reveal their true identity on the internet to a bunch of strangers. It's an abnormal and unusual request and I'd say only an odd sort of person would actually expect a positive response, or give one.

I wonder how others would respond if they were asked to reveal their social media accounts in this way. You for instance. You do not even reveal your personal image in any way at all, I can't imagine you revealing your social media accounts either.
How I would handle it is in my previous comment. I have social media sites. They are in my bio. But I will never be cyber bullied into being told what I must post to verify anything giving satisfaction to their power trip. They can pack sand. Wich is a nice way of saying @hivewatchers can GFT.
It's a very strange request and I wonder if there's some sort of ulterior motive behind it.
You'll see that everything will turn out fine. But yes, seeing that message must be shocking and it doesn't feel good. I suppose they can verify identity and authenticity by other means, while maintaining privacy and without networks. I verified it more than two and a half years ago, keeping my image private.
Multiple accounts are not forbidden, it's forbidden multi account to upvote each other or steal someone else content

While I appreciate what they do from a fair bit of angles, I have a disdain for this attacking of someone unless they add something to another social media page.
If I started posting on Hive last month, with the content I like to write, would I have something as ridiculous as this be foisted upon me? If I did, that's a sure-fire way that I'd quit as well.

It's interesting that someone who remains totally anonymous asks others to reveal their image and personal social media accounts; it seems very suspicious to me. No wonder this platform has never advanced and become what it should rightfully be.
