Ohmygosh okay,
We can sooooo talk books. Cassandra Claire, it's this whole big series with a prequel series that has a prequel series thing, if you've heard of the show Shadow Hunters, it's based off these books (I'm guessing loosely, I haven't seen it) but you'd want to start with the City series first. A few other books/series (aside from Harry Potter because it doesn't really even need mention) that have really stuck in my mind are Nora Roberts Sign of Seven (the basic NR formula really but I liked this one) Sherrilyn Kenyon Born of Night: The League series (the imagery I got really stuck, half bread assassins and space ballerinas uhm, yes.) Christopher Paolini Inheritance Cycle (Eragon), and going with the more deceptivly thought provoking... Sara Drew The Gaia Codex, Dion Fortune The Sea Priestess, and Marion Zimmer Bradley The Mists of Avalon (apparently there's a whole series and I'm dying knowing I don't own it.) I literally read everything though so if you want to be steered in another direction I can do that too these are just what immediately came to mind.
It is absolutely time to link drop and I will read every word fervently and I can't wait. I wish I could stay focused long enough to actually write a book... One day I'm on a retelling of the Greek gods, then I'm on a werewolf spending years chasing a girl he's never met outside of his dreams around the world, then I'm on a multi thread story of space pirates and brothel girls and the nobility and politics, then I think WAIT BUT WHAT IF PRINCE CHARMING WAS A VAMPIRE AND THAT'S REALLY WHY SNOW WHITE WOKE UP, then I'm on skinwalkers, then mermaids and yeah... If I start reading it tonight though I won't sleep so tomorrow I will :D
Hee hee.
Anything with a prequel series that has a prequel series thing and something to do with shadow hunters is most likely For Me. (I nearly named my series The Shadow Hunters, but discovered it was taken)
I'll definitely start with the City series first because I like to stretch out this stuff as far as it can go!
I never got into Nora Roberts- but I'm pretty damn sure it's because my mom was all about it, and well, moms, haha- however I did get into her pseudonym JD Robb ;) Sherrilyn Kenyon, umm yes for me too :)
Oooh, all of the rest of that sounds fantastic!
I thought I've read everything too, clearly I was wrong haha! Have you read any of Kresley Cole? I like her Immortals After Dark series, but I LOVE her Young Adult series- The Arcana Chronicles
And Stacia Kane, all of the Downside Series, definitely start from the beginning with Unholy Ghosts- but give it a real chance because it just gets better, which is not something you can say about all authors
Sweet. I'm actually pretty freaking certain you'll like it actually, I was shocked that even a handful of guys got really into it so I have to be careful about what I end up labeling it when it's published (i.e. paranormal romance is a genre name that turns guys off, so might not go that way)
And-- you are me, hahaha, I am all over the place too- reading wise, and writing wise! I might never have finished a book if not for my own charming, who was like "Stop starting new story lines and finish one" love that man, lol.
Okay, okay, okay I have to stop and take a second to write all of this down because if not the replies will eventually be moved back and I will forget 100% of all the books you've suggested and I don't want to do that, especially the Fever series because I absolutely need to know who the beast at the end of Dream Fever turned into, it's been bothering me for two years.
