Changing editing styles

in #photofeedyesterday

I've been looking for a large canvas print to put up in our new home and decided a portrait orientation waterfall would suit best. I have plenty of photos from lots of waterfalls but I decided this one from Horseshoe Falls in Tasmania was the best fit.

This isn't my original edit as the photo is from 2017. Before looking at my previous edit I wanted to give it a fresh go and see if my style has improved or evolved over those years. I went with this warmer look as it fits the house and location well. This photo will be the first thing you see as you enter the house and we have 2 large tree ferns and a fern garden by the front door, so this was meant to provide some cohesion with the outside and inside.

After editing this I went back to look at my original edit...

I'm glad I went with a new edit, as the original might have been good at the time, it feels a lot sharper, harsher, and more contrast. Which I feel is less suited to a warm cosy home environment.

Which version do you prefer? Or do you think it depends on the purpose?
