Where the Old Meets the New – The Fishing Village of LA POINTE COURTE, FRANCE

There are places you find on the road that completely surprise you — the ones you never planned, yet they stay with you for a long time.
LA POINTE COURTE, a small fishing district of the town of SÈTE in southern FRANCE, was exactly that kind of stop.
It happened by chance, during one of my routes across Europe, but it was a moment I had secretly been waiting for.

I’ve always wanted to visit a real fishing village — a place where time slows down, the air smells of the sea, and weathered boats tell stories of generations past.
This place has a soul. Chaos and order live side by side here.
Old wooden houses still stand proudly, while the boats show the passage of time — some new, some faded and worn by years of waves and salt.
Somehow, everything fits perfectly together.

From one angle, it looks like a forgotten corner of the world; from another, it’s full of life, color, and rhythm.
An incredible place with a unique atmosphere — the kind that makes you forget time exists.

LA POINTE COURTE is not just another fishing village — it’s an important cultural symbol of Sète.
This neighborhood became famous in 1955, when French director Agnès Varda shot her legendary film La Pointe Courte here, often called the beginning of the French New Wave in cinema.
The village still preserves its original spirit — narrow streets filled with nets, boats moored in the canals, and locals who continue to live from the sea, generation after generation.

I hope to return one day — earlier in the day this time — to photograph the daily life of the fishermen and their homes, those charming houses I didn’t manage to capture as the evening light faded away too quickly.
