Ingredients

🥩 2 lbs Kroger Natural Fresh Pork shoulder steak, cut into 1.5-inch long strips
🌿 Wooden skewers
🍅 1 cup Jufran or UFC Banana Ketchup, or Heinz Tomato Ketchup
🍶 ½ cup soy sauce
🍋 ¼ cup Manila Gold Pure Calamansi 100% Pure Juice, or lemon lime juice
🥤 ½ cup Mexican Sprite or 7Up
🧄 8 cloves garlic, minced
🧂 1 tsp garlic powder
🍯 ½ cup brown sugar
🌶️ 1 tbsp freshly ground black pepper
🧂 1 tsp kosher salt


Instructions

1- Prepare the Pork:

  • Using the Misen knife, cut the pork shoulder steak into 1.5-inch strips.

2- Make the Marinade:

  • In a Vitamix blender, blend the soy sauce, chosen ketchup, calamansi juice, Sprite or 7Up, minced garlic, garlic powder, brown sugar, black pepper, and kosher salt until smooth.

3- Marinate the Pork:

  • Place the pork in a large mixing bowl or ziplock bag.
  • Pour the marinade over the pork, mixing well.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

4- Prepare the Skewers:

  • Soak wooden skewers in a metal container filled with water for at least 2 hours to prevent burning.

5- Thread the Pork:

  • Thread marinated pork onto the skewers tightly.

6- Prepare the Glaze:

  • In a small glass bowl, whisk together the ketchup, soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, black pepper, and kosher salt.

7- Grill the BBQ:

  • Preheat the Weber grill to medium heat.
  • Grill skewers for 12–15 minutes, turning every 4–5 minutes.

8- Glaze and Finish:

  • Increase grill heat to medium high.
  • Using a basting brush, apply the glaze generously.
  • Grill for an additional 1–2 minutes per side.

9- Serve:

  • Remove from grill once caramelized.
  • Serve with steamed rice or garlic fried rice and a side of Filipino spiced vinegar.
