Definitely a classic. I have the original Japanese version of this game on cassette for the Game Boy. I played it on an emulator much later, and it's definitely a brutal saga. It's incredible how Nintendo managed to make such an entertaining game with such simple and seemingly monotonous mechanics. They've achieved something incredible.
What Nintendo achieved with this game is super interesting, as you say, the game seems to be simple, but it is very entertaining and with depth in the worlds, there is a lot to explore. Cheers!
This is the kind of game I used to play when I was at school for recreational activities together with my friends, nowadays it evolve more colorful and better dimension. You're like my brother he always likes to create games.
