Hello Hive Learners Community! Welcome to my blog. Ethics and moral values vary from culture to culture, nation to nation, and religion to religion. Many philosophers have shared their philosophies about them. They helped us to make laws but they should not be kept dominant. We should keep a balance in them, especially when shaping laws. In a society, different people from different religions reside together. What is morally good for some people, can be morally wrong for others.
Laws And Society
In humanity, ethics and moral values provide strong foundations for building laws. But their involvement should be limited. For example, as Muslims, we slaughter cows on Eid al-Hajj, which is a sacred event in Muslim Countries. It is morally and ethically allowed to slaughter cows and divide their meat among poor families on this day. In Hinduism, slaughtering cows is not morally good, and their religion does not allow this. It is ethically wrong for them. If constant laws are made regarding ethics and values, it will give rise to choice and conspiracies. Hence, laws are made by balancing ethics and moral values.
What is ethically wrong should not be considered illegal. All ethically wrong things can't give rise to violence. For example, lying to a friend and avoiding helping someone are morally and ethically wrong, but they are not criminal activities. Hence, we can't put a taboo on what is ethically wrong; it will be legal or illegal.
If no one gets harmed, it doesn't mean we should give everyone the freedom to do what they want to do. In a Liberal Society, it can be allowed but practically it is impossible. For example, someone can share whatever he or she wants based on freedom of speech. But it can hurt a specific group of people. Sometimes, we can't find physical harm, but its signs can be witnessed if research is conducted.
We should build laws by keeping a healthy system where everyone's rights should be protected, liberty should be respected, and we should be careful about legal impacts on our society. Laws should provide justice, peace, and freedom to everyone independent of religion. Laws should be built based on humanity where everyone can spend their lives easily.
Final Thoughts
Being a Muslim, I have strong faith in human ethics and moral values, but still, I can't force them to shape laws. Laws should be a source of preaching love, maintaining justice, and should be responsible for protecting everyone. We can't ignore ethics and moral values as they are very significant. Harmony and balance can help us shape laws that will be responsible for protecting each and every right of a citizen, independent of Color, caste, or religion. Either something is not hurting people but we still should not give open hand for everything. It can give rise to violence and sometimes hurt that didn't have physical form, but it exists. Hence, we can conclude ethics and moral values are helping tools but are not decorators.
